Prevention Weightloss Challenege May 14th, 2013

This was Monday

Newly motivated I woke up determined to walk or do something that would make me sweat for 30 minutes. From all my research, and it has been stated even in the article for the Prevention Weight loss Article along with dieting, you need to do some physical activity that makes you sweat for 30 minutes at least 3 times weekly but more like 5 or 6 times for best results.  I am trying to do a exercise video but it is more challenging than I thought it would be.

Started off the day as normal glass of water, banana

Green drink which is basically my breakfast

glass of water with chia seeds

lunch was a modest plate of the left over pasta from the night before

apple I would have paired that with string cheese but I didn't have any, don't you hate that? you think something is in the frig. you go for it and someone has eaten it already?  lol

dinner was chicken with salad and mixed veggies

no dessert but I had a glass of tea that was kind of sweat I mixed the PMS tea with a ginger tea and a peach detox tea and it was so hot I put ice in the tea so I drank it cold.

This is a new tea for me but it is delicious I will definitely be buying it again

I did not walk but I busted out my InMotion elliptical and used that for 20 minutes you can see that below and I did my stretching/yoga positions too.

This was a good day and easy to stick to my "plan"

Thanks for watching, and come back tomorrow! Tish Washington

Prevention Wieghtloss Challenge Catch-Up Saturday May 11th, 2013

OKay so I an way behind can I cannot remember what I ate on Friday, May 10th, 2013.
I know that I did do my regular Water and Banana, I drank my Chia seeds, I drank my green drink and a lot of water because it was hot.

I don't even remember what we had for dinner. Isn't that sad?

Okay but I do remember what I had Saturday.

I was out of bananas so I didn't have one in the morning, and I didn't drink the Chia seeds. Saturday is my cheat day so I don't always do the Chia seeds on the weekend. But I really do try to keep with water and banana every day. Have you ever looked up the benefits of bananas?  Oh you must they are many.

Anyway, but I didn't go over board on Saturday because I knew Sunday I was going out and was going to get in all the things I like. lol

For breakfast we had chicken sausage, scrambled eggs and I threw in some spinach. you can't really taste it and I just toss it in the eggs when they are mostly cooked just so it softens up the spinach.

I had the spinach on hand because now that is heating up I will get back to making my apple  carrot juice.  You can see a video about that here

My son went to a birthday party so I had 2 pieces of cheese pizza.  I could have eaten more but 2 is good.  And then of course cake and ice cream.  there was no salad provided if there had been I would've eaten some of that too for more balance but you know..whatever.   I just had a palm size peice of cake, and it was a light cake, yellow caked with strawberries and whipped cream in the middle. and I had 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream.

I try not to cook on Saturday nights so the kids wanted... pizza of course. I got them pizza and I ate a salad or dinner.

Of course I had water and I drank my Daily Detox Tea I alternate this tea with my PMS tea. Just fyi.

This video below is a video I did that is a "Rant" video but I really want people to wake up!!!! so enjoy this video  hopefully you will find something of value in it

Thanks for stopping by, come back soon.

Too Busy, Too Hot, Just More Excuses!

Well yet another Friday has come and gone, and I did not wiegh in.
I haven't been on the tread mill all week, I didn't even walk the dog this week.
It has been so hot here in California, even the dog just lays around! lol.

And, I have had pizza twice this week, and I ate a pint of ice cream last weekend! Yes, a pint, all by myself. But it's okay. Tomorrow is a new day right? As I type this blog entry, I am baking some chicken and we will be having rice and vegetables too. It's supposed to be a little cooler tomorrow, so I will make it a point to get on the tread mill, and I promised the dog I would walk him tonight.

My business is picking up and so my team is growing, which means I am doing a lot of training. So there again is another distraction (excuse) for me not exercising. But nothing interferes with my Leg Magic, I love that machine. Even one of my 10 year old's friend loves my Leg Magic. When he comes over he gets on it and uses it.

Other than those backtracks, I think I'm doing okay. I am still drinking plenty of water, and eating a lot of fruit, a lot of fruit. I wish I could live off fruit!

I went to the grocery store and I was amazed how easy it was for me to pass up the chip aisle, and I didn't even glance at the chocolates they put by the cash register to entice you to see which ones were on sale, ha! So, I know my attitude is changing towards healthier choices and I feel really good about that.

So stay tuned, this week I will be really focused. On August 1st I'm going to a Gumbo Party! And you know I am not holding back! lol So I will be focused on my eating and my workouts. Isn't that a shame, my whole motivation to be good this week, is so I can pig out on Saturday lol! Whatever works right?

Live blessed, not broke!

1 Reason I'm Fat

There are many reasons we gain weight. Some people believe it is hereditary and there's nothing you can do about it. And I really hate those commercials that tell us it's not our fault that we're fat. Most of the reasons, this is just what I believe, that we as people are overweight is we are hiding some type of pain, and trying to drown out that hurt with food. We're unhappy about something and eating feels good, so we do it. Over and over again. For others it's just a wrong ratio of eating to exercise. For me, it's a little of both. I am coming off a very traumatic last 2 years of my life, in which I over ate and did not exercise. But I recognize this and that is why I'm making the steps to lose this 100 pounds. So enjoy this video.

Foods That Save Lives?

On nutrition: Foods with function
By Barbara Quinn

What is a"functional" food? In Japan, its a food with a "specified health use." In Canada, it's a food with physiological benefits "beyond basic nutritional function." In the United States, its a great marketing tool with no legal definition.

All foods are functional at some level, according to a recent paper on the subject by the American Dietetic Association. "Functional foods" have been found to provide additional health benefits beyond their basic nutritional content. Many have been enriched, fortified or enhanced, such as calcium-enriched orange juice or omega-three fortified eggs.

Others are just regular foods that have been found to possess health-promoting substances. Here are a few of my favorites from registered dietitian David Grottos intriguing book, "101 Foods that could save your Life":

- Artichoke: Actually the immature flower of a thistle plant, artichokes are thought to be one of the world's oldest medicinal plants. Besides being a rich source of vitamin C, folate, and dietary fiber, artichokes contain substances that may ease an upset tummy and reduce the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

- Broccoli: A member of the cruciferous family that includes cabbage, cauliflower, kale, collard greens and brussels sprouts, broccoli contains a good many compounds with cancer-fighting properties. Broccoli is also rich in sulforaphane glucosinolate (dont try to say this at home, boys and girls) a potent antioxidant that has been shown to stop the growth of breast and prostate cancer cells.

- Chocolate: Dark chocolate contains natural substances called flavonoids that improve the health of blood vessels and can help lower blood pressure. Just dont feed it to your pets. Chocolate is toxic to dogs, cats, parrots and horses, reports Grotto.

- Coffee: Not so rich in nutrients, coffee redeems itself with "off the chart" antioxidant properties, says Grotto. Natural chemicals in coffee such as chlorogenic acids may help improve blood sugar control. And people who regularly drink coffee have a lower risk of type 2 diabetes, according to a review of several studies.

- Pecans. My favorite nut, pecans are rich in oleic acid, the same healthful fat found in olive oil. Researchers at New Mexico State University (my alma mater) found that pecans added to a heart healthy diet reduced bad LDL cholesterol more than a diet without them.

- Peppers. Chile "hot" comes from a group of phytochemicals called capsaicinoids, which act on pain receptors in the mouth and throat, says Grotto. Capsaicin applied topically as a cream has been found to be an effective treatment for painful arthritic hands.

- Romaine lettuce. Romaine contains more than five times more vitamin C than iceberg lettuce. It is also rich in lutein and zeaxanthin - substances that help fight macular degeneration in the eye. Romaine also contains salicylic acid, the same anti-inflammatory compound found in aspirin.

- Spinach. One of the richest sources of lutein - the pigment that helps protect the eyes from macular degeneration - spinach intake is also associated with a lower risk for developing cataracts. Glycolipids in spinach are powerful chemicals with properties that can fight the growth of cancer cells as well.

Wii Fit vs Wii Fitness Coach Core Rhythms

Wii Fit vs. Wii Fitness Coach. I really like both of these games, watch the video as I compare the 2. THey both have great features and different features. Wii Fit costs a little more but the whole family can use it. Also, I saw an infomercial for Core Rhythms and that looks like fun too. I might get it in May.
