Have you thought about cleansing

Look Divine From Behind

Here's an excerpt from Yahoo articles that I wanted to share with you.

Jillian Michaels, trainer extraordinaire and new SELF contributor, also thinks jumping lunges are a fantastic firmer. "They just blast the heck out of your glutes while working hamstrings and other muscles in the legs." Try this sequence one to three times a week after your usual cardio plan. Quickly do one set of the indicated reps of each move; rest 90 seconds. Repeat up to two more times.

MOVE 1: 20 squats
MOVE 2: 20 lunges, alternating legs
MOVE 3: 20 jumping squats (in a fluid movement: squat, jump, squat)
MOVE 4: 20 jumping lunges (lunge forward with right leg and jump high. While in the air, switch legs and land with the left leg in front. Continue, alternating legs.

If you have knee problems or any lower-body injury, try step-ups, which tone glutes 59 percent more than squats, according to a study by the American Council on Exercise in San Diego. To try, hold a 5- to 8-pound dumbbell in each hand, then step left leg onto a bench. Step down on right leg. Do 12 reps, and go slow to avoid injury. Switch legs; repeat.

A Healthy Cheat for Dieters

How to cheat (a little) healthier and article I wanted to share with you.
By Alison Johnson

How to cheat (a little) healthier

---

Almost everyone needs to indulge once in a while, even people on a diet.

Here are some ways to limit the damage, nutritionists say:

Keep it occasional. There's nothing wrong with a little "cheating."

Whether it's once a day or once a week depends on your weight, health, overall diet and activity level.

Eat the real stuff.

... If you crave ice cream, spoon out a half-cup of your favorite flavor and stick to brands with an ingredient list of just cream, sugar and milk. Avoid additives and realize that many low-fat options are high in sugar.

... and the good stuff. Get one reasonable-sized portion of what you really want to satisfy a craving. Choose the best-looking cookie, candy bar or slice of cake rather than a big bag of "ordinary" sweets.

Add healthy foods. Top ice cream with fruit or nuts, or mix candy such as M&Ms with pretzels and nuts. And eat a piece of fruit at the same time.

Mix salt with fat. Adding a little healthy fat - peanut butter, avocado or hummus are some - to snacks such as pretzels or tortilla chips will fill you up, slow digestion and (hopefully) help you stay in control.

Drink wisely, part 1. If you want an alcoholic beverage, try sipping one during or after a nutritious and filling meal (think of it as dessert). You're more likely to overindulge - and crave junk food - during happy hour.

Drink wisely, part 2. Sip water between bites of an indulgence, while chewing the food slowly.

Be smart about munchies. Pretzels and baked potato chips are examples of tasty snacks without artery-clogging trans fats, which are in regular chips, cheese curls and many crackers.

Eliminate fat or minimize the amount of fat that you eat. Go for the healthier choices like skimmed milk, light cheese, and Organic Coconut Oil. These foods may seem less tasty than the typical foods that you usually eat, but the rewards are far more beneficial for your body in the long run.

Just Some Random Thoughts, I'm Nervous About My Weigh In Tomorrow

Well I'm really nervous about my weigh in tomorrow. I was really bad over the weekend, mother's day, and I really tried to just stick to salad but it didn't work. I had lots of salt, chips and salsa, cheeseburger, ice cream, I'm sure I'm leaving stuff out, oh yeah some candy too. I did have a great mother's day though!

But the eating didn't stop there. I really had a lot of pasta this week. I think 3 days in a row Just some angel hair pasta with some organic spaghetti sauce, some chopped onions and green bellpeppers. No meat, and maybe that was the problem I should have put some meat in the pasta. But whatever, add to that I had maybe a cup full of ice cream 2 nights this week. I did have strawberries and bananas in the ice cream!

My workouts this week have been fun and full of energy. I used the Nintendo My Fitness Coach. But, Maya, the fitness coach, she really kicked up the workout this week. You see, the program has points where she stops and asks you how you felt about the workout, a) No sweat, b) I was working hard, or c) I couldn't keep up. Well, last week I chose no sweat on the sections. So, this week she has increased the workouts, we did some new exercise, new yoga poses, and it was a challenge, but that is the point right? to challenge myself to lose weight and get healthier. So, I'm really glad I chose to ask for the tougher workout. It's almost really like having a trainer!

I'm still walking the dog, and doing my Leg Magic machine 3 times a day for 60 seconds as well. I did not use the tread mill, but I did add a new 2 minute Ab workout to my program. This ab workout is free, it's on youtube, click here, and try it. Who doesn't have 2 minutes for a flatter, sexier ab section?

So, until tomorrow.

Bless and be blessed.

Sunday Morning Breakfast

Sunday morning breakfast at my house. I don't know the calorie count but this is better than what I used to eat. Visit my blog for details on how I cooked this.

I try to use only Organic eggs. My very favorite eggs are Egglands Best, but they are so expensive, and in my house we eat a lot of eggs, so I get the eggs in this video at Costco. I hope they are really organic like the carton says, but whatever. I scramble the eggs and I use Extra Virgin Olive Oil. I don't use salt when I cook because my family puts hot sauce on everything and that is just salt on top of salt. I do use garlic power and pepper though.

The best turkey bacon, well that my kids will eat, is Louis Rich. Which I buy at Costco of course. I cook it a pan. In a hurry people cook this in the microwave and it is pretty good out of the microwave. But, I like the old fashion pan on the stove way to cook it.

Grits are oddly hard to cook. The directions on the box are not good for my family so I don't really measure, I go by sight. But basically boil water, add desired amount of grits, I put a little milk, butter, yes real butter, a dash of sea salt, and black pepper.

Thanks for watching, see you next time.

Foods That Save Lives?

On nutrition: Foods with function
By Barbara Quinn

What is a"functional" food? In Japan, its a food with a "specified health use." In Canada, it's a food with physiological benefits "beyond basic nutritional function." In the United States, its a great marketing tool with no legal definition.

All foods are functional at some level, according to a recent paper on the subject by the American Dietetic Association. "Functional foods" have been found to provide additional health benefits beyond their basic nutritional content. Many have been enriched, fortified or enhanced, such as calcium-enriched orange juice or omega-three fortified eggs.

Others are just regular foods that have been found to possess health-promoting substances. Here are a few of my favorites from registered dietitian David Grottos intriguing book, "101 Foods that could save your Life":

- Artichoke: Actually the immature flower of a thistle plant, artichokes are thought to be one of the world's oldest medicinal plants. Besides being a rich source of vitamin C, folate, and dietary fiber, artichokes contain substances that may ease an upset tummy and reduce the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

- Broccoli: A member of the cruciferous family that includes cabbage, cauliflower, kale, collard greens and brussels sprouts, broccoli contains a good many compounds with cancer-fighting properties. Broccoli is also rich in sulforaphane glucosinolate (dont try to say this at home, boys and girls) a potent antioxidant that has been shown to stop the growth of breast and prostate cancer cells.

- Chocolate: Dark chocolate contains natural substances called flavonoids that improve the health of blood vessels and can help lower blood pressure. Just dont feed it to your pets. Chocolate is toxic to dogs, cats, parrots and horses, reports Grotto.

- Coffee: Not so rich in nutrients, coffee redeems itself with "off the chart" antioxidant properties, says Grotto. Natural chemicals in coffee such as chlorogenic acids may help improve blood sugar control. And people who regularly drink coffee have a lower risk of type 2 diabetes, according to a review of several studies.

- Pecans. My favorite nut, pecans are rich in oleic acid, the same healthful fat found in olive oil. Researchers at New Mexico State University (my alma mater) found that pecans added to a heart healthy diet reduced bad LDL cholesterol more than a diet without them.

- Peppers. Chile "hot" comes from a group of phytochemicals called capsaicinoids, which act on pain receptors in the mouth and throat, says Grotto. Capsaicin applied topically as a cream has been found to be an effective treatment for painful arthritic hands.

- Romaine lettuce. Romaine contains more than five times more vitamin C than iceberg lettuce. It is also rich in lutein and zeaxanthin - substances that help fight macular degeneration in the eye. Romaine also contains salicylic acid, the same anti-inflammatory compound found in aspirin.

- Spinach. One of the richest sources of lutein - the pigment that helps protect the eyes from macular degeneration - spinach intake is also associated with a lower risk for developing cataracts. Glycolipids in spinach are powerful chemicals with properties that can fight the growth of cancer cells as well.
